4 Signs of an Improperly Sized Furnace in Loudon, TN

You may not know that the furnace in your Loudon, TN, home has the potential to be improperly sized for the space it has to heat, but it’s true. A heating system that is either too small or too large for your home can cause problems, including high bills and discomfort. In this blog, we go over four signs that your furnace may be improperly sized for your home.

1. Furnace Running Constantly

A furnace that runs constantly is more likely to be too small as opposed to too big. The heating system must run in a constant state, trying to keep up and bring your home to the temperature you set via the thermostat. Since the system is too small, however, it doesn’t really work, so it keeps running.

2. Furnace Short-Cycling

Short-cycling is similar to a machine that runs constantly, except that with short-cycling, your furnace will run for short periods and then shut off before repeating the process. A larger-than-needed furnace will cause this by heating your home quickly, then shutting off before certain rooms have warmed, prematurely aging out the parts in your HVAC system.

3. Humidity Troubles

Humidity levels aren’t controlled properly with a heating system that isn’t sized right for your home. High humidity levels may lead to biological growth and health problems. Low humidity levels cause dry skin, scratchy throats and breathing trouble.

4. Inconsistent Temperatures

A furnace that’s too large causes quick heating in the rooms near it and hardly any in the ones farthest away. Some rooms will be uncomfortably warm, while others will continue to stay too cool for comfort.
